INTERVIEW on READER VIEWS -- http://readerviews.com/InterviewBoggio.html This interview is also posted on my Eminent Domain Blog at: http://eminentdomainjean.blogspot.com
STOLEN FIELDS is a non-fiction memoir and family history. It deals with the issue of eminent domain where the government seized farms that supplied the stores and restaurants of Pittsburgh with produce. It was ostensibly done in order to build a munitions plant for WWI. However, the war ended and the munitions plant was never built. The land was put up for public auction and the winner was Carnegie Steel. The story is told from the author's percpective as a descendant of the last holdouts against the takeover. The event shadowed the author's life through the effect on her mother and other family members. The farm grew asparagus, horseradish, tomatoes and strawberries. The loss of the farm grew hatred, bitterness, greed and lust. Incest reared its ugly head. The book highlights the author's experiences growing up in the 40's and 50's, as an attempted actress, and teacher, as well as being a descendant of the colorful and stubborn Cole family.
