Q: Where do you go from here?

A: I have found that is a hard problem to work out at my age. I've been lucky enough to find a small group of women in my age range who are facing the same issue. Our Wisdom Circle meets monthly to discuss our thoughts and progress if any. After much struggle, I've found my goal. I plan to spend the next decade of my life rehabbing old houses, giving them new life for new owners. I want to turn them into beautiful homes again.

Q: So you're going to flip houses?

A: No. I'm going to find old houses with good bones that have fallen on hard times. With care, quality workmanship and good taste, I'm going to give them a new life, turning them back into inviting shelters for a future generation or two. I do plan to fix them up and resell them, but not in assembly line fashion.

Q: Do you hope to make a profit?

A: Yes. But not a large one -- just enough to keep going.

Q: Where do you plan to do this?

A: In Western North Carolina -- the Asheville - Hendersonville area. In fact, I've already bought the first house there in Mountain Home - a suburb of Hendersonville.

Q: When will you begin work on this new house?

A: Work is already beginning, but it will be minimal until I sell my house in Maine. That house is on the market now with Camden Real Estate.

Q: What will you do when you sell your house?

A: Move to the new old house in North Carolina, send it to Elizabeth Arden for a few months (thanks Suzanne Brangham for that thought), sell it, then move on to the next. The cats will love it. Or I might live in it for a couple of years myself while working on a smaller house or two -- then move on to another. The cats will still love it.

Q: Will there be another book?

A:  Yes -- at least one. But someone else will have to publish it -- unless I make it an ebook.

UNDER THE MAINE SUN is the BLOG  that will provide a venue to write some of my thoughts and experiences as they happen and for others to comment and share ideas. The current focus is on the 1914 house that I will be renovating. Access it from the sidebar.
